EWIS is an acronym for Electrical Wiring InterConnect System.
EWIS refers to any electrical wire, cabling device (including associated connectors) installed in any area of the aircraft for the transmission of electrical power, data and signals.
Following the TWA 800 accident, the aviation administration (FAA - Federal Aviation Administration) created a committee - ASTRAC - to improve the handling and maintenance of aircraft electrical wiring.
Indeed, aircraft electrical wiring is subject to extreme conditions (corrosion, aggressive fluids, temperatures) and at the same time airplanes are increasingly dependent on onboard computers, which is why the maintenance of wire harnesses and other wiring has become essential for aviation safety.
Ensure that suitable procedures, methods, techniques, and practices are used when performing maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspection, alteration, and cleaning of the EWIS.
Master the regulatory requirements concerning the EWIS and the impact of these requirements on the preservation of wiring throughout the service life of an aircraft.
Acquire a technical knowledge of EWIS safety in relation to work on the aircraft.
Program compliant with EASA AMC 20-22 Aeroplane electrical wiring interconnection system training program
Qualified staff members performing EWIS maintenance (avionics skilled workers, technicians cat. B2, wiring specialists)
